A letter to my daughter
Dear [Redacted],
I hope that while you read this, you are in the best of spirits and surrounded by the joy and creativity that you naturally bring into every space you inhabit. You are amazing in so many ways, and I am going to share my thoughts with you.
First, your empathy shines like a beacon. It's in the way you listen, the depth with which you understand, and the kindness you extend to those around you. Your ability to step into others' shoes, to really see the world through their eyes, is nothing short of remarkable. This empathy of yours is a rare gift, and it's one that makes the people around you better, one compassionate action at a time.
Your emotional intelligence is equally amazing. You navigate your feelings and the emotions of others with such grace and understanding. It's like you have an internal compass that always points towards kindness and understanding, guiding you in how you interact with the world. This is not just a testament to your maturity, but it's also a powerful tool that will continue to open doors for you in every aspect of life.
Then, there's your creativity – a vibrant and endless well of ideas and imagination. Whether it's through your art, your problem-solving, or the unique way you see the world, your creative spirit is a true joy to witness. Indeed, how I’ve enjoyed discussing the concepts of time, is travel through it possible? Why didn’t anyone show up for the time travellers party?!
However it's not just about the things you create, but the original and thoughtful way in which you approach life. Your creativity isn't just a talent; it's a part of who you are, and it's something that will continue to lead you to amazing experiences and achievements.
In life, you'll inevitably encounter negative people. Remember, their negativity is more about their own struggles than anything about you. Their need to control is simply a habit they don’t understand. When you meet such individuals, use your empathy to try to understand them, but more importantly, protect your own emotional health. It's important to set boundaries and not let their negativity dampen your spirit. Keep embracing your positive outlook and remember that you have the strength and wisdom to not let others dim your light. I know that this part is hard, and can hurt sometimes.
It can be difficult to see when you’re in the moment, but in all these aspects, you are not just growing; you are flourishing. And as your dad, it makes me so happy and proud to watch your journey and see the incredible person you are. Remember, your empathy, emotional intelligence, and creativity are not just gifts to yourself but to everyone lucky enough to know you.
With all my love
-Dad
